Top Desktops for October 2009

Each month we compile data for the number of times a particular desktop is viewed on this site's product pages to get an idea for what mainstream consumers are looking at and thinking about buying. While these desktops aren't necessarily the most popular in terms of sales, they are the most popular based on the number of times our visitors clicked on them.

In that sense, think of this list as the "most clickable desktops of the month" ... the desktops that most of the people visiting this site are interested in learning about. Keep in mind that clicks directly on the "Most Viewed Desktops" list do not count toward the total in order to keep the list as fair as possible each month. The only clicks that count toward the monthly totals come from web searches like Google or from visitors who have clicked on a desktop after visiting our database or inside our forums.

For the first time, the Dell Studio XPS has been knocked off its number one perch since we reviewed it a year ago.  Still a great value, it's no surprise at how popular its been.  It was replaced with another Dell desktop, the Studio XPS 8000 which takes Intel's Core i5 CPUs and puts them in a sleek, redesigned case.  Other surprises were the addition of the Acer Aspire easyStore H340, which jumped into the top ten, as well as the rise in popularity of Dell's OptiPlex - due no doubt to our piece on running Windows 7 in the workplace.

1. Dell Studio XPS 8000 (New to the Top 10) - Transform your screen into the ultimate entertainment empire with the new Studio XPS 8000. This sleek and sophisticated desktop boasts new Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, 3D capabilities and stunning graphics options with plenty of room for expandability. Its confident design will leave you speechless, while its powerful features will keep you coming back for more.

2. Dell Studio XPS (Previously #1) - The Studio XPS desktop features an Intel Core i7-920 processor. Base model includes 3GB DDR3 memory, 500GB hard drive, 16x CD/DVD burner, 256MB ATI Radeon graphics, and Windows Vista Home Premium. View DesktopReview.com's Review for the Dell Studio XPS

3.  Dell OptiPlex 360 (Previously #7) - The OptiPlex 360 Desktop comes standard with an Intel Celeron 440 processor, 17" flat panel monitor, 1 GB DDR2 memory installed, and Windows Vista Business. View DesktopReview.com's Review for the Dell OptiPlex 775

4. Acer Aspire easyStore H340 (New to the Top 10) - The Acer Aspire easyStore is a four-bay home server unit that runs Microsoft's Windows Home Server (WHS) operating system.  It uses an Intel Atom 230 single-core CPU at 1.6GHz and 2GB of RAM.  It comes with one 1TB SATA hard drive.
