Dell releases 24" XPS One All-in-One Desktop

While Dell has had an all-in-one desktop model in the form of the XPS One available for almost a year, it's starting to look a little bit dated when compared to the sleek new desktops released by other manufacturers.  That situation has been rectified as Dell just released their sleek new 24" XPS One 24.

The new models start at $1699, which is a $700 price premium over last year's configuration.  For all that dough, however, you do get a number of upgrades.  Most obvious is the new 24-inch, 1920x1200 16:10 display.  They've got Intel's newer X4500 integrated graphics chipset, four gigabytes of RAM and a Q8200 quad core processor from Intel.  The new models also include Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless networking, an 8x Super-Multi DVD+/-RW slot-loading optical drive, and an XPS One specially-designed wireless keyboard and mouse set.  Optional upgrades include larger hard drives and the new NVIDIA 9600 GT mobile graphics chipset with 512MB of video memory.

Dell is concentrating more on the media side of things with the XPS One 24 this time around, and put in nicer stereo speakers and a subwoofer from JBL.  All of the new XPS models come with high definition analog and digital TV tuners, which take advantage of  Windows Vista's built-in media center to instantly make a very capable DVR and HTPC.  Moreover, you'll be able to add a slot-loading Blu-ray disc drive to the bundle to take care of high definition movies.

Dell is also pushing the PRODUCT(RED) version of the new XPS One 24.  PRODUCT(RED) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the spread of AIDS in Africa.  Purchases of the RED version each contribute between $50 and $80 to the effort.

Update:

There was a bit of confusion surrounding the resolution/aspect ratio of the display; it's actually 16:10, not 16:9.
