On Thursday AMD unveiled a new memory SKU the 2133MHz (RG2133) Gamer Series. The RG2133 is a mid-tier part, offering CAS 10 latency (10-11-11-30) and a voltage of 1.65v. In traditional AMD fashion the RG2133 employs simple DIMMs enclosed in the heatspreader, helping to produce a low profile of 30mm. The RG2133 is offered in 16 GB form, with DIMMs being comprised of 4 GB each (4 x 4 GB), as opposed to an 8 x 2 GB setup.
The faster memory speeds of the RG2133 should pair well with existing AMD APUs, which greatly benefit from increased memory bandwidth. While the GPUs in AMD's APUs are not as efficient as AMD's discrete GPUs, they're still memory starved; meaning that pairing the RG2133 with a Trinity or Richland APU could significantly improve GPU performance.
The 16 GB RG2133 kit is available now for $155, which is $30 more than AMD's slower RP1886 (1866MHz) model.
