TODAY IS THE LAST DAY YOU CAN GET WINDOWS 8 FOR CHEAP!

As part of its strategy to drive adoption of the latest to Windows, Microsoft has kept the upgrade price very low - along the order for $40 or so. That $39.99 is enough to upgrade you to Windows 8 Pro all the way from Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (any flavor). On top of the fact that Windows 8 Pro has had its barrier to entry lowered, Microsoft is also making its home theater software  - Windows Media Center - available for free to anyone who upgrades to Windows 8.

Windows 8 Pro Upgrade

As the graphic above indicates, the full price for Windows 8 Pro is likely to be a hair shy of two hundred bucks, at $199.99. That doesn't mean that it's going to cost $200 to upgrade, but rather to buy outright. Microsoft has yet to release its full suite of pricing information for February, but it's likely that the upgrade cost will jump, at minimum, to $99.99. In addition, the free add-on for Microsoft Windows Media Center is expected to go up to $19.99 for each copy of Windows 8 you wish to install it on.

Wanna jump on the offer while it's still cheap? Head over to Microsoft's Windows 8 Upgrade page. You'll need to pony up the cash for each computer you wish to upgrade, and you'll need to be running a previously licensed copy of Windows in order to qualify (and they will check).

If you're planning to buy a new computer within the next few months, however, feel free to save your forty dollars and pass on this deal: you'll get Windows 8 included with your new computer purchase, and Windows 7 has a lot of life left in it.
