Acer President Claims Windows 8 is Great, Consumers Just "Need Time"

Acer Windows 8Fujitsu may be screaming and crying about how Windows 8 has left them selling fewer shipments than they once hoped, but you won't find Acer following suit.  In a recent interview with DigiTimes, Acer's head honcho went on to defend Microsoft's new operating system, going so far as to call it a "major milestone for 2012".

One of the biggest problems for PC manufacturers, of course, was Windows 8's late entrance into the marketplace. Microsoft didn't get its new operating system out until late October, which left both manufacturers and consumers confused as to how best market and research new computers for the holiday season.

According to some of Acer's internal studies, after 20 minutes of using Windows 8 on a touchscreen, consumers will intuitively try and interact with any display via touch - showing, in Acer's opinion, that Microsoft is on the right track with Windows. It also confirms what most of us have been thinking for the last few months: that within the next few years, all but the cheapest computers, both notebook and desktop alike, will be replaced with multitouch versions of themselves.

To help train and teach consumers how to properly use the new operating system, Acer is setting up a few "experience centers" in Europe, Australia, and Asia, temporary centers and kiosks that will help consumers get over the hump of the new Windows 8 OS.  The company declined to set any of these centers up in North America, since Microsoft's 35 and growing retail stores can accomplish the same goal.
