ASUS Qube with Google TV Shows Itself at FCC

ASUS is planning on helping Google out with its lackluster (at best) attempts to bring Android to the big screen with Google TV. Set for unveiling in January, likely at CES, ASUS is working on a new product called the Qube, which looks to be some sort of new Google TV product - its exact nature, however, remains a mystery.

ASUS Qube

Of course, what you see above isn't the 'Qube' - if only it were that small! No, it's actually a Wi-Fi dongle for the device; that at least does tell us that the unit might not have Wi-Fi built in; only an Ethernet port will provide networking without this adapter. It is possible that the adapter may simply be added internally, and posting the test data this way allows ASUS to keep a tighter control on any possible reveals.

That latter idea is lent credence by the fact that this unit will provide both Wi-Fi and RF signals, which would grant the Qube both networking and wireless keyboard capabilities, respectively. Additionally, ASUS would be missing out if they didn't actually make something named after a cube mostly square.

A quick search on Google's Android Play Store by curious Internet folk have revealed a couple of apps designed for use with the Qube: O!Mobile Remote and O!Mobile Control Center; while these guys don't have a whole lot of use now, it seems obvious that ASUS wants this box to be as connected as possible. Given Apple's success with its own vaunted Remote app for iOS, it seems only fair for an Android competitor to have a few of its own.
