California-based eMachines introduced a series of all white PCs this week with a matching glossy white monitor. With all three coming in at well under $500, the affordable new computers are likely part of the manufacturer's slow push into the back-to-school season.

Today Western Digital updated their My Book series of external hard drives with the WD My Book World Edition II, an upgrade and redesign from the original World Edition line. WD designed the older World Edition drives as networked storage that could be accessed from anywhere. The new drives literally expand on this idea by adding a second drive for redundancy. Bundled with automatic backup software and streaming media utilities, the new and improved My Book World Edition II puts some pretty features in a pretty package. Read on for our full review.
Network attached storage, in a nutshell, is the idea of making hard drives available through a network connection. Despite solid state drives taking the spotlight in recent months, rotating magnetic storage isn't dead yet, and still manages to offer capacities unmatched by their electronic brethren. Seagate's new BlackArmor series of NAS boxes offer 2 - 4 TB of remote storage, and with features like hot swappable drives and automated backups, could be a great fit for your needs. Microsoft has announced that Windows 7 will be generally available right at the tail end of October, later this year. We've discussed before what that might mean for consumers, but what about businesses? Many enterprise customers have simply skipped Windows Vista; whether it was due to pricing, application support or just the PR disaster surrounding Microsoft's last OS is now irrelevant. Windows XP, for all its stability, is starting to show its age and Windows 7 is looking more attractive by the day. Let's take a look at a late model Dell Optiplex 755 PC, a standard business desktop, and see how it looks running Windows 7.
AMD released four new processors today, two low-power quad-core chips as well as two new dual-core processors. The new dual-cores, first ever Athlon II X2 and Phenom II X2 CPUs, offer increased performance over their predecessors, while reducing power consumption thanks to the new 45nm manufacturing process. We've got both of the new dual-core chips in for review, so let's see how they stack up.
While the technology industry is concentrated on Computex this week in Taipei, AMD is taking the opportunity to introduce four new processors: two dual-core processors, and one each tri-core and quad-core processors. The first of the new dual-core CPUs is the Athlon II X2 250, a next-generation successor to the Athlon X2 processor. AMD removed the L3 cache from this chip, but added 1MB of L2 for each core. The new processor is built on a 45nm process and has a TDP of 65 watts, making it an attractive option for consumers who want a powerful chip that isn't too hard on their pocketbooks. It will sell for $87 per chip. Interestingly, AMD has also built in the low-power C1E state directly into the chip instead of relying on the BIOS.
Much like Dell until recently, Lenovo hasn't been known for being a forward thinking company in terms of aesthetic design. They did a couple of things well, and that was good enough; while the Thinkpads as a line might not always win a beauty contest, they have functional, conservative design that stands up heavy use. Lately, though, the OEM has been trying to reinvent some of their products to take a bite out of the consumer market, and the new all-in-one Lenovo IdeaCentre A600 is definitely a departure from the norm.
